22 Bishopsgate
London, UK
General description
This 62-story office tower is the new icon of the City of London. Standing at 278 meters, it rises above its neighbors to offer stunning views from the public platform on the 59th floor, making it the second tallest tower in Europe. Offices are distributed across all floors up to the 58th level, while public spaces occupy the 59th to the 62nd floors, featuring observation decks, restaurants, and bars. The tower can accommodate up to 30,000 people, essentially functioning as a city within a city.
Romain HOURQUEIG designed the entire fire strategy for this project. Over four years of work, initially at WSP UK and later at Studio Fahrenheit, he developed, coordinated, and secured approval for the fire safety strategy from the authorities. Romain created a unique evacuation strategy based on the use of the majority of the 57 elevators in the tower; a solution that proved indispensable given the building's physical constraints and high occupancy.
